Why are we doing this?

Hello,

Have been thinking a few days about writing on this blog to explain why we are doing this….

Why, is always the most important question leading to understanding…

Well… In our case its not just one reason, but a combination of reasons….

But boiled down to fundamentals, it comes down to mostly a couple issues; safety and freedom….

On safety, the Elephant in the room is nuclear war…. nobody talks about it, so therefore it can’t happen, right?

When something unthinkable happens, only those who thought of it and prepared have a decent chance of making it through the event…

Once I read a short treatise by Robert Heinlein written in the late 40’s or early 50’s on how to survive “Atomic” war…

His main point in the article was that the most sure means of survival was to not be there when the bomb dropped…

If you don’t know who Heinlein was, I suggest you search him online…

He is now credited with starting several movements with his writings…

Including the counter culture, the Libertarian party, and the private space industry…

Also I suspect he was instrumental in starting the Survivalist movement….

His books are now required reading in high schools and colleges, and some have even been butchered into Hollywood movies…

He was also who NASA used as the announcer on some of the moon landings….

Not a small feat for a juvenile fiction writer, who started out writing “gosh and by golly” style pulp fiction…

That later evolved into more adult fiction as his literary children became adults…

His main precepts generally revolved around freedom and self sufficiency….

And he, like most fiction authors wrote about the present, hidden in futuristic fiction, so it would seem palatable to the Status Quo of the times…

Today, I read about people in the US being jailed for living off grid… Estimates range around 100,000 Americans living un-connected to city power, water, and sewer…

Basically its been made illegal to not pay corporations for everything you need….This is called “freedom”…

Internet is replete with information about how to do this via solar panels, wind power, food growing, and permaculture….

This is considered radical and revolutionary by the Status Quo drones of 90% urbanized America….

They are out of touch with reality….

I have a degree in construction… and was an ardent student of passive solar energy for use in housing….

But one day, I realized, that location was more important than normalcy….

This started with my attraction to animals… I used to build aquariums and terrariums…

Until I realized it would be better to free myself, than put animals into captivity….

This realization eventually had me unlocking the cage door in my own Zoo of human captivity….

And for the last couple of decades I have lived with the animals instead, and in a tropical paradise, while everyone else showed up on Monday mornings to submit to the weekly abuse, to make it to every other Friday, so they could go out on Saturday, and buy some more stuff they really didn’t need…

Slaves of their own Vanities….

In the process, I learned a lot… Where I live shares about a 90% commonality with the flora and fauna of the Amazon basin…

I could be dropped into the Amazon, with nothing but a back pack, and do fine….

While most of the rest of humanity would be dead within weeks…

Why? Knowledge is power…

And normalcy is usually a form of dependency….

In nature, specialization invariably leads to extinction, when conditions change, as they always do….

Humans have become the dominant life form on the planet, first by being the best generalists, and of late via breaking up into a collective of specialists..

I have always been an avid generalist, and after many years qualify for what Heinlein described as a “Synergistic Generalist”, or somebody very good at connecting dots..

These types are usually used as problem solvers by governments and corporations….

In my case, I’ve realized that the best solution for the problems, is to put them in the rear view mirror, and plant my foot on the accelerator….

And go live where a broad section of the populous still isn’t connected to the grid…

And where the bombs won’t fall, because there’s not much left to fight over in the way of natural resources, except snake habitat….

Freedom at its most fundamental is a function of mobility…

And economic mobility is only as good as the economic system….

An example of economic system degradation might be the British Pound Sterling…

Do you know what that is?

Well, its supposed to be a pound of fine silver…..

Currently its a couple three dollars… How much silver can you buy with $5.00?

In classic history this originally started as debasement of metallic coins… Like the pre ’64 American coins being only 90% pure…

And a silver dollar was an ounce….

What this means folks, is you’ve been screwed rather regularly over a period of time…

And most Americans are only now learning that the Federal Reserve is about as Federal as Fedex…

Its the old carrot and stick analogy….

And you are the donkey, currently taking the carrot aft, and beat with the stick on the head, and still pulling the cart faster than ever….

All, so you can pretend you are normal and sane….

Nash’s equilibrium has a destination, and the train is coming into the station…

Its a sad commentary, but a better life is possible in third world countries….

And I seem to have become a bit of an expert on the subject…. ‘been there, done that…..

And got pretty good at it…..

Which is why we are booting the website…so I can teach….

As there’s no shortage of people who want to learn such skills….

And most of the teachers are comparative weekend warriors….

There are millions now leaving the US…And the Embassies are plugged with people renouncing American citizenship to avoid paying income taxes in two countries on the same income…

My rule of thumb, is the best use of money, is to reduce one’s reliance on the economic system…

Also I have realized that doing the right thing no matter what, invariably is better than doing the wrong things for the wrong reasons….

Or as the Tao points out; the hard path appears easy.. so taking the harder looking path, is eventually the road to an easier and better life….

Life is about choices and prices….

Taxation, is like doing a back packing trip with 30%-50% of your load being stones…

Hope you are tough…..

Another concept I realized years ago, is what I call the costs of working…..

If you add it all up, taxes, fuel, food, clothing, housing, transportation, etc.
For just the ability to show up at work, Your current reality is probably less than 20% efficient at getting something for yourself…

You’d be better off in the Stone Age….
