Driving Through New Mexico

June 12, 2014

Well, its been a couple of days without reliable internet..

And a bit busy making distance…

We crossed New Mexico mostly on freeways, It was hot, but we made
better time on the flatter terrain than Utah…

My impressions on this trip through the American southwest are of
nearly infinite space, only lacking water… I did a lot of thinking
driving, mostly about how people live crowded in to towns and cities,
when there are vast areas that could be lived in with the help of
simple technologies…

This morning driving through west Texas, I saw a very successful
looking ranch, with green trees around the house and out buildings…

The center piece, and likely what made it all possible was an 1800’s

style windmill pumping water…

The area has a limestone based geography, old sea bed in geologic time..

Limestone is very good at water retention…

But all of the humans would rather invest in bogus money games….

So I don’t think the problems are technical in nature, I think it’s
human… that people are so easily sucked into the fast lane, and a
section of the continent sits empty…

It amazes me, having a background in passive solar construction,
greenhouses, and irrigation.. For what most americans have into stock markets, or investments in corporations, they could create a personal oasis in places its sunny every day…

If I were King…..

I wouldn’t be after Petroleum in far lands, I’d be after water in this one…

And doing every project possible to put people on their own land,
growing food, and fostering independence and freedom… Also
security….

We have the technology…

And it would create a boom economy… America is very land rich…

Instead, we have people being sucked dry by taxes and middlemen…
And desserts that are drier than ever…

What would it take? to drill wells, pipe water, desalinate….

We drill for oil.. we pipe gas, and we mine salt…

Its all about personal choices…

People live in cities for money…and generally have empty calorie lives…
Their children go to schools that teach the mass psychosis of normalcy more than the three R’s…..

It can’t last… the numbers aren’t there to do it with…

As Arthur C. Clark pointed out, we will never run out of energy and
matter to manipulate, We will run out of brains…..

On this trip We have gone through several major cities… read; major
nightmares…

Sometimes I can’t believe how so many people could live like that…

Effectively commuter Insects, all based on black honey, that is
extremely toxic…. and it’s a reality that can not continue…

As I write the ice cracks…. and 80% of humanity lives within five
meters of sea level…

What I’m saying is that economy isn’t everything… Leave it to
humans to focus on the flowers and not the fruit….

Economy is like technology; inert, its what you choose to do with it
that counts…

Anyway, the truck has been running good, the only recent issue has
been a leaking seal in the transfer case, one of its parts that
didn’t get rebuilt.. I can’t stop now and repair it, so I will just
keep the 90 weight going into it…

I was thinking of the Bug out M-35 crowd, and that they had best be
working hard on getting their trucks up into shape…

The M-35’s seem problematic about seals and gaskets… I’d suggest
the best you can buy are none too good… use plenty of sealant
too…

Another thing I’ve realized, is that the truck’s top speed isn’t that bad…Ours may do 55 mph, downhill… but I seem to be getting about a 45 mph average..

Sure, we get constantly passed, but I see the same vehicles pass me
several times… Less stopping is more effective than going 70 mph…

Another thought I had driving was about wind power and the “current” fad of using it for electrical generation…

I think I will focus on water pumping instead…. it would make a
bigger difference by orders of magnitude… I would rather have more water than I could use, than electricity…

There are modern technologies that are game changers on water…
carbides for instance; cheap, readily available, as Welder’s hard facing… making it fairly easy to drill micro wells, even through rock…

I was day dreaming about wind powered well drilling…. something
that could be set up to drill a well over time, Whenever the wind
blew….

Now we are in Del Rio, Texas, a couple hundred plus miles east of
El Paso, close to the Mexican border…

I think we can make Brownsville area in another day… then I want to
rest up, and cross the border in the morning… that is still a few
days away….

And the M-35’s are exceptionally good trucks… we have done 2500
miles in ours in a matter of days… Well worth restoring these
classics, and a better investment in real terms than silver or
gold….

Mobility is security…

And I thought about the Bug Out heads, and their thinking in terms of a few hundred miles.. I think this is very short sighted…

When the Empire crashes, best one be prepared for absolute and
constant mobility…

Anything less is likely to be potentially fatal…

I see mobility as a life style. I grew up that way in a military family….

I saw that People/Families move on average every few years, even outside of the military family thing, but that civilians were less “real”
about it…

They bought all kinds of things for their vanities, and then Mayflower
made a killing on them when reality changed again…

The same for U-Haul, etc.. corporations doing quite well getting fat
off of a collective blind spot….

My thoughts on it are: build up from the bottom, and keep the
materialism in balance with the owned transportation…

No over stuffed furniture, I like folding stuff…and try to be minimalistic…

I am not what I own…We are more what we do….
